CALL TO END VIOLENCE AND PENALSING THE INNOCENT
We, David Hinds and Eusi Kwayana of Guyana, are making this appeal from California where we both happen to be on June 30, 2002. On that day we made a joint appeal on a tape. Before it could get home the situation changed for the worse.
It is now July 8 and we are talking about the events of July 3rd to 5th, 2002. The aim of the appeal is to condemn all violence and all those responsible for violence, and inciting violence, and using violence, regardless of who they are, so-called friends or so-called foes, fellow villagers or not.
You who are attacking others, especially Indians passing through the village or living near to your village. There is no excuse for this. Some of you have been caught red-handed! Entering into people's homes, beating them up, robbery, all of these are well known offences long before you were born and in every country of the world.
When people commit these offences the law has them arrested and tried. If they are found guilty the penalties are stiff. Why do you think you should not be caught and tried?
For one year now we have been opposing those who brought this robber culture to the village.
When the Black Clothes came in and killed Shaka Blair, the cowards leading you had had a martyr ready made. The DPP played THEIR game when he removed Brother Kwayana's case from the court. That case is now before the High Court. The lawyers assisting brother Kwayana are Attorneys at Law Peter Britton,SC, Nigel Hughes and Arif Bulkan. They are all in the case because they feel that the DPP was wrong.
The main aim of the cowards is to protect the five escaped prisoners. And they found many Buxtonians easy to use. We hear abroad that they give out money to the poor. But your sisters, your children, your friends, your cousins are now all marked as people supporting robbers. WHOSE FAULT WILL IT BE? INDIANS?
There is an on going fight for equal treatment and opportunity.
THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE IN THESE ATTACKS ARE SETTING YOURSELVES UP FOR PUNSIHMENT OF ONE KIND OR ANOTHER. YOU ARE ALSO MAKING THE WHOLE VILLAGE SEEM TO BE GUILTY. RIGHTEOUSNESS IS ALL THAT CAN EXALT YOU, UNLESS YOUR TEACHERS KNOW BETTER THAN GOD.
What the guilty ones are doing is not Rasta culture. It is robber culture. Only drug runners, sex traders and arms traders behave like that.
Buxton is now seen as a village of robbers and a village of people protecting robbers. You have no right to put a whole village in disgrace.
You have put all your fellow villagers to shame. You have made Guyanese Africans appear like barbarians. You are actually helping to give the worst possible picture of yourselves.
You cannot be wrong and strong.
During the twenty- eight rule of the PNC government, Their supporters did not behave like this. Africans were free to come and go although their leader had stolen the elections.
