I maintain that all Buxtonions are not guilty
Posted January 24th. 2003 by Eusi Kwayana.
Friends have just sent me, or I have just seen, SN clippings of more attacks on residents of Annandale by gunmen escaping back into Buxton. and a letter by a citizen.
Late last week there were similar attacks, including attacks on Vigilance residents. In a recent letter some of us criticised the pattern of law enforcement. It is a pity that Devi Mathura chose a certain interpretation of or recent letter. We have said so often that the attacks are by Africans mainlyagainst Indians, that an Indian Guyanese from the UK mailed me to say that it seemed Iwas blaming all Africans.
These attacks are an extreme form of crime and there is no other way to describe them. Moreover, they are a challenge to the police.
The offenders assume that they are above all consequences. People with guns do have that feeling. Why should people any where have to endure this armed arrogance? I shall maintain until I know differently that these crimes are committed by an armed minority and their circles . .Our estimate will put them at about 350 out of about 7000, but it is a mere guess.. I admit that I am one from the village not ready to regard too many as guilty. No, we have not shifted from where we were. We have written our letters.
The GHRA has issued reasoned advice. Law enforcement has issues bulletins. The HPS -Cabinet Secretary speaks to the press about crime. How many house holders read newspapers? We talk about the power of TV, which I am sure the gunmen do not miss. They have heard the late escaped prisoner, Douglas, on TV.
Who has gone on TV and radio with any kind of well considered message, setting out the choices before bandits and their supporters? Such an appeal should be heard on all TV channels.
How do we know without trying it, that such a step will be useless? I am rushing this letter without consultation.
